Highway 101
Recorded in 2006, Highway 101 is Mike's first album, a collection of songs written from 1978 through 2005. Some of these songs were recorded at PAC3 Studio in Dearborn, Michigan and the rest either in his basement or onstage. Some are humorous. (A Simple Case of Rape, for instance, is the story of a hapless man's chance encounter with two forceful women.) Others are more autobiographical. (The Stars Can Wait tells of his love affair with a Mexican girl who died of a heroin overdose.)

Here are the liner notes from the Highway 101 album:

"I met an angel once years ago. There's no need to mention names. We drank coffee in a Missoula tavern, me in my denim, my hat and boots; him in his robes of white, wings hidden, and talked about the past and future. A lot of what he predicted came to pass (well of course it did) while most of what I'd hoped for never did. But all in all it's been a good journey. I hope to make another like it.

"Anyway, this album of songs written over a few decades is dedicated to that angel as well as all the travelers I have known, whether they still wander or have found places to belong. I still think of you often from this room and in this time, with love, with regret sometimes. Always with hope that we'll meet again."
